As part of Music at the Castle.
Classical music concert – box office opens on October 9th.
Sévigné of yesterday and today
This trio program presents music from the time of Madame de Sévigné, who was very interested in the musicians of her era and often mentions them in her letters. Music was central to social life at court, practiced by both nobles and professionals: the Marquise cites a concert featuring Marin Marais, whom she had seen perform. Ballet, court airs, and tragédie lyrique feature prominently in her correspondence, and her daughter herself danced in the Ballet des Arts in 1663. Madame de Sévigné notably mentions Atys Lully, whose rehearsals and performances she had attended, and whose minuet and gavotte are on the program. Chamber music and stage music will thus be presented side by side, with composers of her time: Lully, Marais, Gautier de Marseille, Hotteterre…
Marc Vervisch Domingo – recorder
Esther De Loynes – Baroque harp and recorder
Matthieu Franchin – harpsichord
